Some twenty years ago, Tina Karstorp had an idea. Actually, it blew her away, and it seemed impossible not to go ahead with it. Every year, summer or fall, it's the same story. Wind in the sails and sun at your back.  But anyone who has ever been at sea knows that regardless of how warm the weather is, you always need an extra sweater. One more layer, a little more warmth. But the fabric's thickness isn't always the crucial part. The wind at sea is just as welcome as it is unpredictable. It will push the boat forward or cool the people on board down.  And this is where it all started...

When Holebrook first started, there was a need for warm sweaters to keep the wind out. Today there are many other materials which can act as protective layers. That’s why Holebrook have taken their knowledge in knitting forward, and developed clothes to become part of an outfit. 

Craftmanship

Holebrook garments may be knitted by a machine in a factory, but in order for the end result to become a sweater, cardigan or dress, you need a great deal of craftmanship knowledge. The journey from idea to finished sweater is long, and it isn't until they feel good about every detail, that they'll start the machines.

All of their clothes are made in Europe, by partners who they have been working with for a long time, who maintain our high quality, and value work on fair terms. It gives a good insight into the production, as well as shorter transportations and a smaller impact on the environment.

Another important part in the craftmanship is that they choose and buy all yarn, buttons and zippers themselves.

The Yarn

Which yarn is the main factor affecting the end result. All of the yarn is from European suppliers; the quality is high, they are durable enough to be worn and sustainable in an environmental perspective.  

The Knitting

Knitting technique plays a crucial part as well. Perfect thickness, perfect warmth and just the right amount of exclusivity, carefully combined. It may sound obvious, but knitting is a craftmanship which to this day, needs good knowledge of both yarns and techniques.

The Design

Design is just as much about function as it is about form, quality and feel. This is the idea which Holebrook is founded upon.

The Materials

Alpaca Wool: Alpacas live in high altitudes in the Andean region of South America. The wool has a perfectly soft structure, which gives the garments a wonderful feel.

Extra Fine Merino Wool: Merino wool comes from the merino sheep, and has fine and curly fibres. Its yarn is genuinely soft and nice to wear, and it is also one of today's most popular yarns. 

Mohair: Mohair is wool from the Angora goat. Its fibres are a few centimetres long, which gives the garment a perfectly soft and a somewhat furry feel to it.

Cotton: Cotton is a natural material, and when spun into yarn, it becomes both soft and strong at the same time. Garments made from cotton are easily cared for, and cool and comfy to wear.
