UPF Ultraviolet Protection Factor

UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is a rating for fabrics that measures how much UV radiation they block, similar to SPF for sunscreen, with higher numbers offering more protection, like UPF 50+ blocking at least 98% of UV rays, making it essential for sun-protective clothing, hats, and swimwear to prevent sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer by shielding skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

How UPF Works:
UPF indicates the fraction of the sun's UV rays that can pass through the fabric.
    • UPF 30: Good protection (blocks 96.7% of UV rays).
    • UPF 50+: Excellent protection (blocks 98% or more of UV rays) and is the highest rating, recommended by dermatologists.

    Fabric Factors:

Protection comes from tighter weaves, special UV-blocking fibers, and chemical treatments, with denser fabrics and materials like polyester and nylon generally offering better protection than cotton.
